Targeting the exploitation of natural resources, specifically illegal fishing, the coordinated patrol is building greater maritime security cooperation between the Australian and Indonesian defence forces along the two country’s shared maritime boundaries. The coordinated patrol is being conducted under the umbrella of Operation Resolute, the Australian Defence Force contribution to the whole-of-government commitment to protect Australia’s borders and offshore maritime interests. Operation Resolute began on 17 July 2006 and is commanded by Border Protection Command (BPC), which is responsible for operational coordination and control of both civil and military maritime enforcement activities within the area of operation.
