ARM Papaloapan (P-411)

USS Newport was decommissioned on 30 September 1992, at her homeport of NAB Little Creek, Virginia. After several years in the Navy's mothball facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was sold to the Mexican Navy. Rechristened at Mexican Naval Shipyard Number 1 (ASTIMAR-1), Tampico, Tamaulipas Mexico, as Mexican Navy Ship (ARM in Spanish) Papaloapan (P-411). (Photo: SEMAR)

ARM Usumacinta (A-412)

Mexican Navy ship Usumacinta (A-412), formerly USS Frederick (LST-1184), arrives in Pearl Harbor for a 10-day port visit. Usumacinta was a Pearl Harbor based ship, before it was decommissioned on October 5, 2002 and later sold to the Mexican Navy in December 2002. Usumacinta returned to Pearl Harbor to retrieve machinery parts from the several decommissioned tank-landing ships maintained in the Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility. ARM Mina (F-214)

The Mexican navy Knox-class frigate ARM Mina (F-214) sails in formation with maritime forces from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Mexico, Peru, U.S. and Uruguay off the coast of Florida during UNITAS Gold. ARM Mina (F-214)

The Armada de Mexico frigate ARM Mina (F-214) departs Mayport Naval Base to participate in UNITAS Gold off the coast of Jacksonville. Mayport is host to maritime forces from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Mexico, Peru, the United States and Uruguay for the 50th iteration of the annual multinational maritime exercise, which will take place off the coast of Florida April 20-May 5. The Mexican Navy amphibious ship Papaloapan (P-411) sits off the coast of Mississippi preparing to assist with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts along the Gulf Coast. The Mexican and Dutch Navy, have sent ships to augment joint U.S. military forces in the area. The Navy's involvement in the humanitarian assistance operation is being lead by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in conjunction with the Department of Defense.
