BAP Antofagasta (SS 32)

Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Armando Rodriguez, assists the crew of the Peruvian Navy submarine Antofagasta (SS 32) to moor on board Naval Station Mayport, Fla. BAP Sanchez Carrillon (CM 26)

The Peruvian fast attack craft Sanchez Carrillon (CM 26) fires at a Ship Deployable Surface Target (SDST), simulating an incoming threat, during a surface gunnery exercise conducted during the UNITAS 45-04 Pacific Phase. Deployed and operated by an Afloat Training Group Detachment embarked aboard USS Thomas S. Gates, the SDTS provides state-of-the-art training for participating forces. Naval forces from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and observers from Mexico and Canada are participating in UNITAS 45-04, the premier naval exercise in the region, which is conducted under the direction of Commander U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command and hosted this year by the Peruvian Navy. BAP Mariategui (FM-54)

B.A.P. Mariategui (FM-54) conducts maritime patrols in the Gulf of Panama for suspected ships of interest in support of PANAMAX 2004. Naval forces from eight countries are participating in PANAMAX 2004, a naval exercise designed to build up a coalition response to security threats against the Panama Canal. PANAMAX is conducted under the direction of Commander Naval Forces Southern Command and involves the identification, monitoring and interdiction of vessels posing a simulated terrorist threat to the Canal. The multinational force includes surface and air assets from Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Panama, Peru and the United States operating in the north and south approaches to the Canal. PANAMAX’s realistic scenario develops not only interoperability among naval forces but also joint and inter-agency interoperability as the naval forces work together with other services and agencies of Panama to ensure the safety of the Canal and to protect freedom of navigation. The Peruvian Navy transport ship BAP Mollendo (ATC 131) arrives at Naval Station Pearl Harbor for a four-day port visit. BAP Mollendo, commanded by Cmdr. BAP Herrera (CM 24)

BAP Arica (SS-36)

The Peruvian submarine BAP (Buque Armada Peruana) Arica (SS-36) and its sailors begin their journey home from Naval Base Point Loma with tug assistance by Navy Region Southwest. Arica was participating in the Diesel Electric Submarine Initiative with the U.S. Navy. Arica acted as the primary opposing submarine force for the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group's Composite Unit Training Exercise and Joint Task Force Exercise.
