USS Reuben James (FFG 57)
A visit, board, search and seizure team deploys from the guided-missile frigate USS Reuben James (FFG 57) during exercise Koa Kai off the coast of the Hawaiian Islands. Koa Kai is the primary integrated training event for mid-Pacific surface combatant units. USS Reuben James (FFG 57)
The Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate USS Reuben James (FFG 57) passes the Battleship Missouri Memorial as it departs Naval Station Pearl Harbor as part of the Mid-Pacific Surface Combatant Operational Employment program. The program calls for nine of the 11 Hawaii-based surface combatants to focus on the Western Pacific by conducting intermediate/advanced training and regular deployments in the Western Pacific, and is designed to improve the U.S. Pacific Fleet's war fighting readiness and effectiveness. The Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate USS Reuben James (FFG 57) passes the Battleship Missouri Memorial as she makes her way pier side at Naval Station Pearl Harbor. Reuben James is returning from a six-month western Pacific deployment supporting the global war on terrorism. Armed with six MK-46 torpedoes, one 76 mm MK 75 rapid-fire gun and one Phalanx close-in weapons system, frigates fulfill a protection of shipping mission as anti-submarine warfare combatants for amphibious expeditionary forces, underway replenishment groups and merchant convoys.
