CNS Esmeralda (BE 43)
The Chilean Navy training ship CNS Esmeralda (BE 43) pulls into Pearl Harbor for a scheduled port call before starting Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2006. Eight nations are participating in RIMPAC, the world's largest biennial maritime exercise. Conducted in the waters off Hawaii, RIMPAC brings together military forces from Australia, Canada, Chile, Peru, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States. The U.S. Navy delivered two P-302 and P-303 35-meter patrol boats to the Iraqi navy Umm Qasr naval facility Jan. 26. The vessels are the second and third such craft to be delivered to the Iraqi navy as part of a planned 15-ship foreign military sales case managed by the Support Ships, Boats and Craft Program Office in the U.S. Navy Program Executive Office Ships. USS S Coronado (AGF 11)
The command ship USS Coronado (AGF 11) will deploy from San Diego, Calif., in March to the Western Pacific. Coronado will provide a command platform for the Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet staff and serve as a temporary replacement for USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) while it undergoes a maintenance period. Blue Ridge is currently forward deployed in Yokosuka, Japan. The Navy is testing an innovative manning concept aboard Coronado that combines the skills of Navy Sailors and Military Sealift Command (MSC) Civilian Mariners (CIVMARS).
